Directions for Week 1:
1. Get the Burris Elementary Music Education 2024-25 Info Sheet off of the stand when you walk in.
2. Go over emergency procedures.
3. Sing "Make New Friends". This is a song we learned last year.
4. Play "Find Someone Who". Everyone needs a "Find Someone Who" game sheet.
5. Find a partner and sit down on the floor with your partner. Read the tasks on your paper. Find something on the paper that matches up with your partner, then write their name down beside it. Next, perform "Make New Friends" with them. Repeat this process with a new partner. Do this until your paper is full or you run out of time.
6. How many different names did you get on your paper? Did you make any new friends? Did you find out something new about your old friends?
7. If you got 10 names, get 1 ticket. If you got 15 names, get 2 tickets. If you got 20 names, get 3 tickets.

3. Try singing your new verse with the melody. If you have time, make up another verse. Every person on your team will get a ticket for each verse you write.
4. Present your new verse to the class by singing it with your group. Everyone in your group will get another ticket for performing their new verse.

Directions for Week 1:

5. Break up into two groups. Sing and rap the new Hip Hop version of "Make New Friends", in a 2 part-round.
6. What happened at the end? Break up into 3 groups and try the ending.
Directions for Week 3:
1. Review from last week.
2. Break up into pairs. Practice the hand clapping pattern that I taught you, with the Hip-Hop version of Make New Friends.
3. Make up a new hand clapping pattern or movement for the rap section for "Make New Friends". You need to make up a routine for 2-8 beat counts and practice slow with your partner until you have it memorized and are confident.
4. Now, with the song, practice the entire routine with your partner. Do the original hand clapping pattern with verse 1 & 2 and perform you and your partner's chosen hand clapping pattern or movement with the rap section.
5. How did you do? Practice more to improve.

Directions for Week 1:
1. Get the Burris Elementary Music Education 2024-25 Info Sheet off of the stand when you walk in.
2. Go over emergency procedures.
3. Listen to the 2 Tracks of "Make New Friends"
4. The melody is on the white board. Learn the song by following the contour or the shape of the melody line. Answer questions about what direction the melody goes and get tickets for the drawing at the end of the month.
5. Sing "Make New Friends" a few times until you are more confident.
6. Find a partner to learn the hand-clapping pattern that goes with the song. This is a 16 beat pattern. If every measure has 4 beats, how many measures is that?
7. Practice with your partner until you feel confident. Say the words of the song while you are practicing the hand clapping pattern. Start slow. After you think you have the pattern, you can try to do the song up to tempo. When everyone thinks they have it go back to your seat.
8. Everyone should get a ticket if you participated.
Directions for Week 2:

2. Form an outer circle and an inner circle, with the same number of people on the outside as the inside. If you have an uneven number, I will join the circle.
3. Sing "Make New Friends" with the hand clapping pattern.
4. When the song is over, share with your partner 1 thing that they do not know about you.
5. When you are done sharing, everyone in the outside circle will move one person to their right. The inside circle stays in place.
6. See how many new friends you can make.
7. If you participated without arguing, get a ticket.

2. Divide the class into two groups. Perform "Make New Friends" in a 2 Part Round.
3. Listen to the "Found Sound Jam". Try tapping your rhythm part on your legs or hand.
4. Learn the procedure for getting instruments. Group 1 will get drums and Group 2 will get Triangles. Try performing the "Found Sound Jam" in two parts.
5. If you have time switch instruments. Group 1 will play the Triangle part and Group 2 will play the Drum Part.
6. Put up your instruments one row at a time, calmly and carefully. Make sure you put them back in the place you got them, the same way you found them.
Directions for Week 4:
1. Get a notes packet and a pencil when you walk in.
2. Practice drawing 4 Quarter notes (ta)
3. Practice drawing 4 pairs of Eighth notes (ti ti)
4. Practice drawing 4 Quarter rests (sh)
5. Get a ticket for all of the pages that you completed neatly. The blank tickets are in the brown wooden basket. The basket is located on the short bookshelves by my desk, under the Growth Mindset Bulletin Board. The more pages that you complete, the more tickets you can get. Will you get 1, 2 or 3?
6. Put your first and last name on the ticket and put all of your tickets in the music basket for the monthly drawing.
